From the road with love

Three years ago [April 28th] my parents and I stood outside the international departures terminal at LAX. I had a large suitcase and backpack. They had countless worries and fears. After over a year of of frustrating and fruitless job searching, I was moving to Thailand to teach English. Everyone was excited for me, but also concerned- and rightly so. But it was only going to be for 4 months and then I was coming home. We said a tearful goodbye and then I mustered whatever false bravado I had and walked to the check in counter. I knew that day was going to be life changing but I don’t think any of us anticipated by how much. Three years later and I’ve been home exactly twice, for a total of about 19 weeks. I’ve traveled to an additional seven countries, held two long term teaching jobs and made literally hundreds of friends.
